Politics and Black Women

Let’s talk about politics. The political climate right now is pure trash. White people in this climate are either far right or far left and that leaves almost 50 million black people in the middle of all the bullshit. I, being a black woman, my politics is left center. Its like, yes we need the police, no I don’t want the police to shoot us down for no reason other than being black. I care about housing, jobs and medical care. for all people I care that this economy works for all of us, instead of just the one percent.

I have voted in every election since I was 18 because that’s what was done in my household. My mother would take me with her and she would even take me inside the booth with her when she voted. Every black woman I knew growing up I would see on election day going to the polls or coming back from the polls. I would hear them talk about who they voted for and why. They would vote not for person that could do the most for us. They would vote for the lesser of two evils. The one candidate that wouldn’t hurt us. That is how I felt when i voted in the 2020 elections, At least I know that is how I voted. I was not altogether happy with President Biden. I felt he was too much of negotiator, not to mention he is too old to be president. I was not happy with my choices at all. He and Vice President Kamala Harris had promised three fundamental things. Criminal justice reform, voting rights, and the George Floyd policing act. Those are the core things he said to the black community. He has been in power for a year and nothing yet.

I know how this work. I have been following politics for a long time. The bills have to pass the congress and the senate. Yet he has sign an executive order to stop Asian hate. I am wondering when these politicians that come into our communities begging for our vote going to pass legislation that i will see a difference in our communities. Every single time a politician opens his mouth to say that they fight have passed legislation to help everyone, everyone except the black community gets the help.

They come to black women in particular, because we are the most consistent voting block for the democratic party. We receive a bunch of empty promises and they hope we don’t remember. Well not this time, for the democratic party it is about accountability. It is high time for you to mean what you say and stand on it. Black women are tired of being lied to and taken advantage of by people black and white that have no intentions on following through on their lies. President Biden is going to say, “We tried but the republicans block our every move.” Why Republicans never have that excuse? The push shit through no matter who is in office. I for one am tired of the excuses and time to vote they asses out out of office and put someone in their place that can get shit done for us.

New in 2022

What’s in for you in 2022? A lot of things are going to be new for me, for one, this blog that I began last year, I abandoned it after 2 posts. I really don’t know what it was that made me just stop writing. I love to write and I love politics. I was only reiterating what was being said on television and I didn’t want to do that. So I left it alone until now, that I have stumbled on some type of clarity.

What I have discovered is I want to talk about everything pertaining to my life and the lives of other black women. So that’s exactly what I am going to do. I had a real fear that people would not want to read what I was writing about. I am a black woman in her 50’s, retired, empty nester, and have two degrees. I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I knew i want to write and I knew I want love politics, but I didn’t know how to mesh them together and what it would look like. So I began to wonder if there were other black women going through what I am going through. I feel like I am trying to find my place in society. I really don’t know where I fit in exactly.. I do know that I have a voice and I have always used it. There was just so many voices out there, I figured mine would get lost.

Facing my fears is nothing new to me. I was in law enforcement for over 20 years so facing a fear is like child’s play. This fear was real though to know that maybe thousands perhaps millions would read my blog scared the hell out of me.. So I have decided to pick my blog back up again and hopefully take you along on this journey. I am not perfect and I am not that savvy when it comes to setting up this blog, I will get better. Take this Journey with me while I tackle being a 50 something black woman in society.

My First Blog Post

This is the first post on my new blog. I’m just getting this new blog going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
